Bio: Allen Berg is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a graduate of Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. However at the age of 2 months moved with his family to Europe where he spent the next 18 years living in a number of countries. And at the age of 18 returned to live in the Orlando, Florida after his father retired from military service. Allen worked for Walt Disney World before it opened and spent 2 years there. After which he went to work for Sears where he worked for 9 years, then started a career with JCPenney Co. in their construction service dept. and a member of Carpenters local 225 in Atlanta Ga. Where he spent the next 21 years traveling around the United States and Europe building and remodeling JCPenney stores. Allen is married and the father of two sons and one daughter, also the grandfather of three boys and three girls
Accomplishments: Allen managed to build or remodel over two hundred JCPenney stores in his career and worked in all fifty states as well as Europe and Puerto Rico. And with all stores but 2 stores completed them on time or earlier, and under budget. While working for JCPenney Allen moved from a Clerk of the works to lead project manager, and eventually to a store planner and fixture buyer in their Atlanta, Georgia Regional headquarters office.
Qualifications: Allen went to work for the City of Winter Haven in June of 1999 as a Code Enforcement Officer under the planning Division as a Code Officer I and worked his way to the Senior Code Officer a position that Allen helped to create over his 15 year career with the City of Winter Haven. Allen was part of the group that helped to get the City of Winter Haven employees to vote in the Federation of Public Employees as their voice in dealing with City Staff and Management. Allen served as a steward and then as Chief Steward while employed by the City of Winter Haven
Allen also served as Vice President of FACE (Florida Association Code Enforcement) and the lead at all FEMA locations in Winter Haven during and after the Hurricanes of 2004 that hit Polk County – He was also voted Employee of the year in 2004 for his outstanding efforts in 2004
With all of Allen’s past work history and union experience, he feels like it will help him greatly in the handling of his new job as the Central Florida Business Representation for the Federation of Public Employees
As the Business Representative for Central Florida Allen represents the employees of Polk County and the City of Winter Haven – His duties as the Union Business Representative are to speak on the behalf of all union members in dealings with management – And to make sure they are all treated fairly and equal.
